Vasiliy Strugov, the Executive Director of Construction Dredging Company LLC (CDC LLC), gave a speech within the session “Ice reinforcement: solving new challenges in building of ships for arctic conditions” of the conference «Northern Sea Route-365” related to arrangement of conditions for year-round navigation.

He emphasized a necessity of building ice-reinforced dredgers on purpose to provide effective navigation, to increase potential for use of the Northern Sea Route (NSR) and shared some plans of the company.

Presently CDC LLC is aiming at upgrading of current trailing suction hopper dredgers with a hold volume of 5 000 m3 to ice reinforcement class Ice2 thereby enhancing usability of a dredger at the port water area of the NSR. In future, the company explores options of designing and building of two trailing suction hopper dredgers with ice reinforcement class Ice2 of the same hold volume 5 000 m3.

In addition, the company plans to commence building of three ice-reinforced non-self-propelled cutter dredgers based on FPDG3 project with anchor handling tug and supply vessels based on FPW1 project as early as the year 2024.
